NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL COURT MANDATES ASUU TO CALL OF STRIKE

ASUU STRIKE

The National Industrial Court yesterday mandated the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASSU) to call off its ongoing nationwide strike.

Justice Polycarp Hamman while giving the judgment, restrained ASUU from continuing with the strike action while ordering the union to call off the strike pending the determination of the substantive suit filed by the Federal Government.

Some days ago, the Federal Government dragged ASUU before the Industrial Court requesting the court to restrain the union from continuing with the strike action and to return to work while negotiations continue.

Recall that ASUU commenced her strike action in February, in order to demand improved funding for universities, a review of salaries for lecturers, among other crucial requests.

Since the commencement of the strike action, several meetings have been held between the FG and ASUU without any meaningful outcome, hence, the Federal Government approached the court to challenge the strike.
